Heartbreaking images have emerged of dogs being tear-gassed by riot police in Turkey, the latest victims of the ongoing protests which are now into their fifth consecutive day.

Pictures of Turkish police spraying gas into people's faces during demonstrations across the country have prompted widespread condemnation of heavy-handed tactics and apparent brutality.

The latest photographs, which were uploaded to Twitter, are believed to show dogs caught up in the carnage near Gezi Park in Istanbul.
